How does EMDR work?

EMDR therapy is an extensively researched, evidenced-based approach that is proven to help people recover from distressing life experiences. Using bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements) you will learn to desensitise from unwanted emotions and feelings associated with a memory or experience, and form more adaptive beliefs to move forward with better mental health and wellbeing.

How does online EMDR work?​
Online EMDR therapy functions very similarly to in-person EMDR, but uses digital tools and platforms to facilitate the therapeutic process. Just as you would in-person, our EMDR-trained therapist will work through the eight phase EMDR protocol with you.

What are the advantages of online EMDR?

Convenience: You can save time (and money!) by not needing to commute to our office. All of our Saturday appointments are online only, meaning more flexible scheduling options for you.

Comfort and safety: Participating in therapy from the comfort of your own homes can help you to feel more relaxed and safe; being in a familiar environment can reduce the anxiety that some people feel when attending in-person therapy.

Continuity of care: If you have started therapy at Mind The Way but find yourself moving away from the Sunshine Coast, or traveling frequently, online EMDR therapy offers the benefit of continuing your care with us from any location. It has been shown that having consistent therapy ensures better mental health outcomes.

Online EMDR therapy has many advantages, although we will always consider individual needs and discuss with you if we think in-person EMDR therapy is more appropriate.
